Fleeting Faith

Everybody has an opinion. And, when it comes to decision-making, it can be helpful to request advice from those who’ve walked a similar path before you. Requesting consultation from an experienced individual makes sense. When you’re traveling to a new country, it’s only reasonable that you should want a map. But, in many of our life’s situations, we lose the map. Our guide disappears. We lose connection to our trusted confidants and friends. At first, we panic.

Then, when we realize that our success or failure depends entirely on our selves, we grow calm. And nothing, nobody, no map of unchartered territory will prepare you fully for what you are about to experience. The only strength that can support you now is the strength you’ve accumulated from all the other times you stepped outside your comfort zone and survived. If you’re reading this now, you’ve made it through every trial and tribulation this life has offered you thus far. Take a moment to notice each time fear asked you to panic, and you were grounded enough to stay calm. Acknowledge yourself for each small victory you’ve amassed in this life. Do not let fear drive your decision-making. Instead, try being driven by curiosity. Instead of concluding, “If I do this, then x will happen.” Let’s face it: we never know what’s going to happen. We live in a constant fluctuation between deluding ourselves into thinking we are on a certain path and being rudely awakened to reality: we are only so powerful. Most of the time, we are on a path completely unrecognizable to the human imagination. Our energy carries us to people, situations, and places that reveal to us only a fraction of the mystery.

Each time we think we know more than we used to, we come to see shortly thereafter the massive depth of our own ignorance. Believing we know what’s to come is how we placate ourselves- how we avoid the reality of our life situations as humans. Every day, we are at the mercy of chance. Every day is a roll of the dice. We can only show up and do our best. Everything else that we believe we know could be a lie.

Trust the process.
